Tate Shots: Martin Parr

Martin Parr is a British documentary photographer and photojournalist. He is known for his photographic projects that take an intimate, satirical look at aspects of modern life.

Martin Parr has created many series of work including ‘Think of England’ and ‘bored couples’. He does this by going around certain locations to find, sometimes funny, situations to photograph for everyone to see.

I like most of Martin Parr’s work because of its humorous side to it as it makes a change to often seeing serious and emotional photos.

Photographers freeze the moment for everyone to see and feel. Parr does this in a different way to other photographers because he has not gone to the other side of the world or into weird and wonderful caves to take amazing landscapes or close-ups, he shows you what is right in front of you and in some ways it makes you appreciate the environment around you more. It’s the little things you don’t notice that can make the most interesting images.
